Friday Features - 11/22/19

Happy Friday everyone! The holiday season has arrived and we’ve been busy welcoming new artists and products to the store! Here’s what we’ve featured on social media this past week!

silkscreened taco ornament by Broderpress
We couldn’t let Halifax’s first-ever taco week go by without featuring Broderpress’ fantastic silkscreened wooden ornaments! Their taco ornament took the spotlight this week; however, we have their ornaments in many other designs such as hamburgers and chickens. These ornaments are custom laser-cut from 3/16” basswood and then hand printed in vibrant colours. These incredible eye-catching ornaments are a great addition to any tree!

Handmade Porcelain Mugs by Rachel De Conde
We had the pleasure of welcoming the ceramic artist Rachel De Conde to the store this week! Rachel’s pieces are unique, beautiful, and expansive in terms of texture & aesthetic. She has developed a variety of glazes resulting in a wide range of colourful pieces completely different from one another! While we featured the mugs from her hand-drawn floral series, we also have pieces with blue tones, metallic accents and honeycomb designs!

Hand-Embroidered Art Hoops by All The Pretty Things
We also welcomed another new artist! We now carry a large selection of beautiful hand-embroidered hoop art by Emily of All The Pretty Things NS. Whether it is lettering or illustrations, Emily’s work is incredibly detailed and carefully designed. Designs made to be displayed year-long, or specifically for the holiday season, are in-store now.

Animal Swimsuit Calendar by Paper Wilderness
We had to mention Jenna Puente’s, of Paper Wilderness, heartwarming 2020 calendar of Swimsuit Animal illustrations. This calendar features 12 adorable critters modeling an assortment of swimsuit fashion. These watercolour illustrations are incredibly pleasant, family-friendly, and formatted to be framed easily after the year is over!

Laser-cut wood wreath by Paper + Light
If you’re looking for a stylish (and long-lasting!) wreath to welcome the holiday season, this fantastic laser-cut art piece (from Ali of Light + Paper) does the trick! Starting from a paper-cutting, this beautiful wreath is laser-cut from 1/8" birch wood and measures approximately 15” x 13.5”. It is a perfect addition to a door, window or feature wall!

Friday Features - 11/15/19

Happy Friday everyone! Here at Inkwell, we’ve been feeling the buildup to the holiday season. We’ve had plenty of new arrivals of holiday cards and calendars, not to mention a new artist to debut! Here’s what has been featured on our social media for the past week.

maritime slang screen printed tea towel by Far Far Away Shop
The newest design by local designer, Far Far Away Shop, has arrived at Inkwell! This Maritime slang tea towel contains 83 unique slang phrases from around the Maritimes, and includes 21 equally unique town names from Atlantic Canada. It’s a great way to spark some conversation about what interesting things we’ve said & heard in Eastern Canada. Available now in-store and online.

women who make 2020 calendar by Sarah Duggan
Waiting to see what Sarah Duggan releases for her calendar has become a bit of a holiday tradition for us here at Inkwell. Every year she continues to stun us with an assortment of carefully chosen illustrations to welcome the new year and her 2020 calendar is no exception to this! This 2020 Calendar titled “Women Who Make” celebrates women living creatively. Each month features a group of women gathered together to do handcrafts and creative projects. Each page is thoughtfully designed to be re-purposed into 5x7 postcards at the end of each month (or year).

Screenprinted Calendar Tea Towel by Keephouse
Another highly anticipated yearly release for us is this limited edition calendar tea towel from Keephouse Studio. The new 2020 design is bursting with bright colours and floral images. It is now available in-store and online but has been a quick seller every year we’ve carried it - it’s best to act sooner than later for this one.

Halifax crame Card by Bard Cards - Brad Hartman
Brad Hartman of Bard Cards features the infamous Halifax crane in his most recent popup card. If you’re looking for a quirky, Halifax-themed way to wish someone a “Merry Cranemas” this card is perfect for you! Available In-store and online!

handmade perfume by FieldHouse Handmade
Fieldhouse Handmade is one of the new artists we’re pleased to welcome this week! Lindsay makes an assortment of wonderfully scented bath salts and perfume blends. This week we’ve featured her zodiac scent series, in which she has created a custom scent for each astrological sign. Each perfume is delicately scented, so you and those close to you can uncover the layers of fragrance, while not leaving a heavily scented trail behind you. The convenient packaging allows you to pop this perfume in your purse or pocket so you can refresh and stay smelling beautiful all day!

Nocturne Halifax - Monumental Signage ✨

Nocturne Halifax 2019

Nocturne is Saturday, October 19th!

Nocturne: Art at Night is a free event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax / Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Now in its 12th year, the festival brings art and energy to the streets between 6pm - midnight on Saturday, October 19th.

Come crank the wheel on our antique letterpress and print your own keepsake! This year’s theme is SCAFFOLD and we’ll reveal the design that visitors will be printing closer to the day of the event. This year’s project will truly commemorate the night and all ages are welcome!

Here is our exhibit description:

Downtown Halifax is in a state of flux. Almost everywhere you turn there is scaffolding staged to help build new or improve existing structures. Halifax once had illuminated scaffold signage in its downtown core too. For one night, participants can mix the old with the new and print by hand a Nocturne sign keepsake using a century-old letterpress.

Keep your eyes peeled for the guide to plan your route. We look forward to seeing you out! Until then, check out the post that Nocturne has put together to Have the Best Nocturne Ever!
