Friday Features - 03/06/20

Happy Friday Everyone! We’ve entered the first week of March and Winter seems to be competing with Spring. Whether it is grey outside or showing signs of the spring sun, we've been able to keep our spirits high by focusing on all the bright and colourful goodies we have in stock! Here’s a round-up of what we've been featuring on social media this past week!

Handmade Togo Mugs by Slightly Irregular
Chelsea Legge, of Slightly Irregular Ceramics, has been in to restock our shelves with her amazing work! Sea monster to-go mugs have been topped off and are back with additional colours. These whimsical pieces, along with the rest of her collection, are made from red earthenware from Lantz, Nova Scotia. Aside from the two sizes of to-go mugs featured here, Chelsea makes everyday objects ranging from mugs, bowls, planters, berry baskets and egg holders! Feel free to stop by to admire them in person!

Dried Flower Steam Kits by Fieldhouse Handmade
If you’re really missing the flowers of spring & summer, these floral facial kits, made in Wolfville by Fieldhouse Handmade, could be the perfect remedy for you! Just mix them in a bowl of steaming water then carefully drape a towel over your head and bowl to let the floral-infused steam gently purify and cleanse your pores! It also works great if you want to treat yourself to a luxurious flower petal bath to combat winter blues - what better time to pamper yourself?

Floral Felt Hoop Art by The Yellow Birdhouse
We’ve been long time fans of these felt floral hoops by Laura of the Yellow Birdhouse. They are a great way to introduce a pop of colour in your home without taking up too much space! Made from a variety of different fabric and wool felt, they’re soft yet cheerful and compliment pretty much any wall. The selection of colours and designs for these pieces changes depending on what material is available/inspiring to the artist, so it's best to visit our Halifax store regularly to see what's in stock.

Flower Arranging Print by Sarah Duggan
How dreamy is this flower arranging print by Sarah Duggan? This 8x10” print, part of the “Women Who Make” series, is so much more than just a beautiful image, it’s a wonderful representation of community, friendship, and sharing space with one another. This print can be found online or in our Halifax shop! Additional prints from the series can also be found in-store!

Gems of Nova Scotia Print by On Paper Prints
Made in Cape Breton by the fantastic “On Paper Prints”, this 8x10” Illustrated map of the counties of Nova Scotia depicted as gemstones includes Annapolis County, Guysborough County, Cumberland County, Yarmouth County, Pictou County, Antigonish County, Cape Breton County, Inverness County, Halifax County, Lunenburg County, Colchester County, Victoria County, Queens County, Hants County, Shelburne County, Digby County, Richmond County and Kings County. Beeswax Food Wraps
The beeswax food wraps by Hive to Home NS are available in loads of fun fabrics along with a variety of shapes/sizes to seal/protect everything from keeping your toothbrush clean to transporting snacks or keeping leftovers fresh! Handmade in Nova Scotia using beeswax from the Annapolis Valley, these beeswax food wraps are a sustainable alternative to plastic wrap. Collage Lobster Print by Angela Doak
This Lobster print, by Angela Doak, is a perfect combination of nautical & colourful. A digital print of an original paper collage created from tiny paper cut-outs from magazines and craft paper, the image is unique and captivating. It can also be oriented horizontally or vertically, making it a great fit as part of a series or gallery wall. Available in-store or online!

Happy Friday everyone! Today’s the day! Valentine’s day is finally here, and all week we have been featuring cards and treats for the special people in your life. If you haven’t made it out for your cards yet, fear not! We still have plenty of cards ranging from sassy to sappy in stock. If you’re pressed for time, we also have a great selection listed online, you can pay ahead of time and we’ll have it ready for you, just remember to hit “Local Pickup” at checkout!

Local Love Card by Rhubarb Paper Co
It can be palentine’s, galentine’s, valentine’s or whatever else you’d like. It’s always great to show your appreciation to any person in your life. Anita, of Rhubarb Paper Co, designs all sorts of cards to get the point across with equal parts humour and sentiment. Her “Overreact with” card, featured here, could apply to partner, parent, friend or whoever else! We carry a selection of Anita’s cards in store but also online as well!

Local Grey's Anatomy Quote Card by Better Left Said
Another popular choice to express appreciation to that special, and specific, someone in your life is this “You’re My Person” (quote from Grey's Anatomy) card designed by the talented hand-lettering artist Sam Shannon of Better Left Said. We've got the perfect cards for your fellow X-Files fan (X-phile), partner in crime or significant other. We also have a new mug debut by Marla Benton this week! These fun & functional mugs are actually a collaboration from Marla and her 8-year-old daughter, Juniper, who designed the cupcake decals on them! They’re colourful, well made and sweet on so many levels! Come check them out in-store.

Handmade Aromatherapy Shower Steamers by The Bath Bomb Company
Our newest arrival are these vibrant and amazingly smelling shower steamers made in Canada by the Bath Bomb Company. What are shower steamers? They’re essentially a perfectly-portioned bath bomb product that can be used in showers and for face steams. There are 3 recommended ways to use them, First, dampen and place on the ledge in the shower away from direct water flow. Let the aroma release slowly as you shower. When you are almost done, place the steamer in the palm of your hand, hold close to your face and enjoy the aromatherapy. Second, place in a bowl of hot, steaming water, lean over the bowl with a towel over your head to enjoy the aroma of the essential oils. And finally, as a mini bath bomb!

Anna, of Annafolds, has restocked us with all sorts of lovely warm designs of her handmade paper lilies. They’re perfect if you want to take a low maintenance, longer-lasting approach to giving flowers. We’ve also been using them as a nice final touch when wrapping up wine!

Handmade Word Mugs by Union Street Pottery
These Love Mugs, handmade by Andrea of Union Street Pottery, playfully hide words of love, encouragement, & friendship in their cheerful illustrations. All the way from Quebec, we have a selection of stunning handpainted glass earrings, rings, and pendants by the talented jewelry maker Karine of Azurine. In anticipation for valentine’s, we’ve featured a few of her heart-shaped pieces. Block Printed Tea Towel by Little Brummie
A warm welcome goes out to our newest artist at Inkwell! Victoria, of Little Brummie, is a multidisciplinary artist of who has been experimenting this past year with new mediums. We’re drawn to her use of colour and shape in the block print tea towel designs we now carry. Featured here is one of our favourite designs of hers that features a beautiful tangerine themed pattern.

Letterpress printed by hand, by our in-house line, Inkwell Originals, Our East Coasters are hand-fed one-by-one on our circa 1921 Golding Pearl Improved #11 letterpress and the ink we use is mixed with salt water drawn from the Atlantic Ocean. Happy Friday everyone! The holiday season has arrived and we’ve been busy welcoming new artists and products to the store! Here’s what we’ve featured on social media this past week!

silkscreened taco ornament by Broderpress
We couldn’t let Halifax’s first-ever taco week go by without featuring Broderpress’ fantastic silkscreened wooden ornaments! Their taco ornament took the spotlight this week; however, we have their ornaments in many other designs such as hamburgers and chickens. These ornaments are custom laser-cut from 3/16” basswood and then hand printed in vibrant colours. These incredible eye-catching ornaments are a great addition to any tree!

Handmade Porcelain Mugs by Rachel De Conde
We had the pleasure of welcoming the ceramic artist Rachel De Conde to the store this week! Rachel’s pieces are unique, beautiful, and expansive in terms of texture & aesthetic. She has developed a variety of glazes resulting in a wide range of colourful pieces completely different from one another! While we featured the mugs from her hand-drawn floral series, we also have pieces with blue tones, metallic accents and honeycomb designs!

Hand-Embroidered Art Hoops by All The Pretty Things
We also welcomed another new artist! We now carry a large selection of beautiful hand-embroidered hoop art by Emily of All The Pretty Things NS. Whether it is lettering or illustrations, Emily’s work is incredibly detailed and carefully designed. Designs made to be displayed year-long, or specifically for the holiday season, are in-store now.

Animal Swimsuit Calendar by Paper Wilderness
We had to mention Jenna Puente’s, of Paper Wilderness, heartwarming 2020 calendar of Swimsuit Animal illustrations. This calendar features 12 adorable critters modeling an assortment of swimsuit fashion. These watercolour illustrations are incredibly pleasant, family-friendly, and formatted to be framed easily after the year is over!

Laser-cut wood wreath by Paper + Light
If you’re looking for a stylish (and long-lasting!) wreath to welcome the holiday season, this fantastic laser-cut art piece (from Ali of Light + Paper) does the trick! Starting from a paper-cutting, this beautiful wreath is laser-cut from 1/8" birch wood and measures approximately 15” x 13.5”. It is a perfect addition to a door, window or feature wall!
