Happy Friday Everyone! We’ve entered the first week of March and Winter seems to be competing with Spring. Whether it is grey outside or showing signs of the spring sun, we've been able to keep our spirits high by focusing on all the bright and colourful goodies we have in stock! Here’s a round-up of what we've been featuring on social media this past week!

Handmade Togo Mugs by Slightly Irregular
Chelsea Legge, of Slightly Irregular Ceramics, has been in to restock our shelves with her amazing work! Sea monster to-go mugs have been topped off and are back with additional colours. These whimsical pieces, along with the rest of her collection, are made from red earthenware from Lantz, Nova Scotia. Aside from the two sizes of to-go mugs featured here, Chelsea makes everyday objects ranging from mugs, bowls, planters, berry baskets and egg holders! Feel free to stop by to admire them in person!

Dried Flower Steam Kits by Fieldhouse Handmade
If you’re really missing the flowers of spring & summer, these floral facial kits, made in Wolfville by Fieldhouse Handmade, could be the perfect remedy for you! Just mix them in a bowl of steaming water then carefully drape a towel over your head and bowl to let the floral-infused steam gently purify and cleanse your pores! It also works great if you want to treat yourself to a luxurious flower petal bath to combat winter blues - what better time to pamper yourself?

We’ve been long time fans of these felt floral hoops by Laura of the Yellow Birdhouse. They are a great way to introduce a pop of colour in your home without taking up too much space! Made from a variety of different fabric and wool felt, they’re soft yet cheerful and compliment pretty much any wall. The selection of colours and designs for these pieces changes depending on what material is available/inspiring to the artist, so it's best to visit our Halifax store regularly to see what's in stock.

How dreamy is this flower arranging print by Sarah Duggan? This 8x10” print, part of the “Women Who Make” series, is so much more than just a beautiful image, it’s a wonderful representation of community, friendship, and sharing space with one another. This print can be found online or in our Halifax shop! Additional prints from the series can also be found in-store!

Beeswax Food Wraps
The beeswax food wraps by Hive to Home NS are available in loads of fun fabrics along with a variety of shapes/sizes to seal/protect everything from keeping your toothbrush clean to transporting snacks or keeping leftovers fresh! Handmade in Nova Scotia using beeswax from the Annapolis Valley, these beeswax food wraps are a sustainable alternative to plastic wrap. Collage Lobster Print by Angela Doak
This Lobster print, by Angela Doak, is a perfect combination of nautical & colourful. A digital print of an original paper collage created from tiny paper cut-outs from magazines and craft paper, the image is unique and captivating. It can also be oriented horizontally or vertically, making it a great fit as part of a series or gallery wall. Available in-store or online!

Happy Friday everyone! Valentine’s Day has passed and Halifax is showing subtle hints of spring approaching! We’ve had quite a few of our fan-favourite products restocked this week, along with some colourful new additions to them! Here’s what we’ve featured on social media!

Handmade Canadian Pottery by Kelsey Watson Ceramics
The always popular sunset mugs by the Cape Breton potter, Kelsey Watson, are back in stock, and this time she brought some in a second colour! True to their name, these mugs have a dreamy gradient glaze in either pink or blue that are complemented by a stark horizon line of gold lustre. They are handmade, thus no two are identical, but consistently sized to one another - this makes them a great option if you want to pair them up for a wedding or anniversary gift, especially now with the option to mix and match with both colours available. They’re in store now but always go quickly!

Small History Nova Scotia Chapbook
The Small History NS Chapbook is a must for both locals and those living away. In 366 daily entries, it features more than 300 unique places and communities, charting the seasonal rhythms of labour and leisure, land and sea that shaped the lives of Nova Scotians more than a century ago. This week we welcomed some new letterpress printed paper toy birds by Kathryn of Blackbird Letterpress. These delightful DIY (do-it-yourself) paper toys are fast and easy to assemble. We have yellow warblers and woodpeckers available.

Fun facts: The yellow warbler is a symbol of focus, growth and expanding your horizons! The redheaded woodpecker is a symbol of opportunity, mindfulness and intuition! Great reasons to have them 'hang' around your home.

Wildlife of Nova Scotia - Birds

Wednesday marked the release of the highly anticipated Wildlife of Nova Scotia - Birds print from Alex of Midnight Oil Print & Design House. The second in the series is now available in the shop and on our website!

Friday Features - 01/24/20

Happy Friday everyone! Snowy days are here & love is in the air! Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and we've got all sorts of treats and cards for you to give to your loved ones. Here's what we've featured on social media this week.

Hand Embroidered Hoops by KatieBette
Whether you want to collect them all, or just pick your favourite of the four, these Tree of Life embroidery hoops are a keepsake to be treasured. Locally made by Katie Gillis of KatieBette, each piece is hand embroidered on a three-inch hoop and then finished with felt backing. The attention to detail on each piece is incredible, as can be seen through the flourishes of seasonal colours & textural accents of the overlapping thread. The tree of life series, along with many others of the KatieBette collection, can be purchased in-store or online here.

Handmade Cat Bowtie & Card
Here at Inkwell we aim to have a cat-themed product for any occasion, even if that occasion is a formal one. We have a great selection of cat bowties, handcrafted by Sweet Pickles Designs, to dress up your feline friend for the special moments in life. We also have an assortment of cards to accompany them, featured here is a new addition from the talented Emily Skinner of Pedaller Designs.

We haven’t left our canine friends out either, dog bowties (fits most 3/4 inch and 1-inch collars) are also available along with a wide selection of cards as well. Jaybee Design is the artist behind the “All You Need is Pug” card featured above.

Issue 44 of Uppercase Magazine has arrived at Inkwell. If you haven’t heard of Uppercase and are searching for some creative inspiration it’s certainly a title to look into. Canadian made, carefully curated, and perfectly formatted for the creative & curious, it provides informative articles & stunning visuals about all things artistically inspired. Quantities are limited so don’t delay checking it out!

Nature Prints by Briana Corr Scott
These breathtaking nature prints by Briana Corr Scott are a new addition to our online store, but can also be found in-store directly. Each print is 11x14” in size and is a colourful reproduction of original oil paintings on a neutral cream or black background. They can be found online here.

Happy Friday everyone! Here at Inkwell, we’ve been feeling the buildup to the holiday season. We’ve had plenty of new arrivals of holiday cards and calendars, not to mention a new artist to debut! Here’s what has been featured on our social media for the past week.

This Maritime slang tea towel contains 83 unique slang phrases from around the Maritimes, and includes 21 equally unique town names from Atlantic Canada. It’s a great way to spark some conversation about what interesting things we’ve said & heard in Eastern Canada. Available now in-store and online.

Waiting to see what Sarah Duggan releases for her calendar has become a bit of a holiday tradition for us here at Inkwell. Every year she continues to stun us with an assortment of carefully chosen illustrations to welcome the new year and her 2020 calendar is no exception to this! This 2020 Calendar titled “Women Who Make” celebrates women living creatively. Each month features a group of women gathered together to do handcrafts and creative projects. Each page is thoughtfully designed to be re-purposed into 5x7 postcards at the end of each month (or year).

Another highly anticipated yearly release for us is this limited edition calendar tea towel from Keephouse Studio. The new 2020 design is bursting with bright colours and floral images. Fieldhouse Handmade is one of the new artists we’re pleased to welcome this week! Lindsay makes an assortment of wonderfully scented bath salts and perfume blends. Each perfume is delicately scented, so you and those close to you can uncover the layers of fragrance, while not leaving a heavily scented trail behind you. Since the autumn weather has continued to inspire us, we couldn't help but post a few of the autumn-themed cards that are now in store! Here we have some scenic nature-focused cards by artists Rigel Stuhmiller (top left), Vena Carr (top right), and Emma Fitzgerald (Bottom).

Wildlife of Nova Scotia by Alex MacAskill
Have you seen Alex MacAskill's, of Midnight Oil, latest art print highlighting the Wildlife of Nova Scotia? This 16"x20" art print features hand-drawn illustrations of the unique and beautiful mammals we share this land with. It is the first of a future series to also include birds, insects, flowers, and marine life. This print could be a great addition to any nursery or children's room, and remains relevant for all ages!

Keephouse Studio Tea Towels
We're so pleased to be carrying the brand new tea textile collection by Alissa Kloet of Keephouse Studio. "Cut/Paste/Print" features an assortment of new designs and colours all focused around the central theme of mark making and the artist's original process. Along with fresh new designs and colours, Alissa continues to move toward increasingly ethical and sustainable textile manufacturing process - Alissa is now pairing her GOTS (global organic textile standard) certified inks with Oeko-Tex certified fabric that is a smoother, softer, and more luxurious linen than before!

Jacob Rolfe, Floating World Screenprints
We're also super excited to announce the return of work from Jacob Rolfe of Floating World Studio. Jacob's work is the perfect combination of whimsical yet intricately detailed. His 9"x12" shop local print featured here is available in a variety of colours.
