A native species here in Nova Scotia, these crabs were (and still are) thought of as a nuisance to some. They were often found in lobster traps having eaten all the bait before the profitable lobsters could get to it. But then we discovered these crabs are also quite tasty.

What is a nereid (nee·ree·uhd)? A nereid is an ancient Greek spirit of the sea. Known for their beauty and friendliness, they are especially protective of sailors and fishermen. The nereids were the fifty daughters of Greek gods, Nereus and Doris.
