These are the most common sea star species in the North Atlantic. They have five arms and hundreds and hundreds of tiny tube feet on their undersides. Like humans, they also enjoy a good bivalve mollusk supper.

What is a nereid (nee·ree·uhd)? A nereid is an ancient Greek spirit of the sea. Known for their beauty and friendliness, they are especially protective of sailors and fishermen. The nereids were the fifty daughters of Greek gods, Nereus and Doris.
