An edible bivalve mollusk, wild populations have declined drastically in recent history due to overharvesting, disease, and significant habitat changes. While they can make turn irritating grains of sand into pearls like some other oyster species, their pearls are small and really aren't worth anything.

Nereid Art is owned and operated by Katie Kripp (she/her). She is a Métis artist living on the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. Katie is a self-taught artist and is inspired by the ocean and nature.

What is a nereid (nee·ree·uhd)? A nereid is an ancient Greek spirit of the sea. Known for their beauty and friendliness, they are especially protective of sailors and fishermen. The nereids were the fifty daughters of Greek gods, Nereus and Doris.
