Giant Kelp, found off Canada's west coast, provide habitats for many species and can grow up to 60cm per day. Kelp populations in Nova Scotia have declined by 85-99% in the past several decades. As a crucial underwater habitat, this loss has affected many other native species as a result.

What is a nereid (nee·ree·uhd)? A nereid is an ancient Greek spirit of the sea. Known for their beauty and friendliness, they are especially protective of sailors and fishermen. The nereids were the fifty daughters of Greek gods, Nereus and Doris.
