While common octopuses are not found this far north, we do have several native cephalopods in the waters off Nova Scotia. And yes, the plural of octopus is octopuses! The origin of the word octopus is Greek, not Latin.

What is a nereid (nee·ree·uhd)? A nereid is an ancient Greek spirit of the sea. Known for their beauty and friendliness, they are especially protective of sailors and fishermen. The nereids were the fifty daughters of Greek gods, Nereus and Doris.
