Nocturne Halifax - Image & Sound

Echo Location Inkwell Nocturne 2020

Nocturne will be a little different this year. Spanning October 12-17 within K'jipuktuk/Halifax and virtually everywhere, Nocturne: Art at Night is a free event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax / Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Now in its 13th year, the festival brings art and energy to the streets.

For the past 10 years, Inkwell has been an exhibit location with a participatory component. This year with Covid-19 introduces new creative restraints. We're looking forward to presenting an audio visual display or our printmaking process. Here is our exhibit description:

Echolocation inspired printing project that will evolve daily over the five days of Nocturne. As echolocation can be defined as using sound rather than light to build an image, each day the project will be revealed online using sound only. On the last day (October 17th), the final art will be revealed and a free, limited edition print will be available at Inkwell (while quantity lasts).

Follow along daily from 10/13/20-10/17/20!

Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for the guide to enjoy all of the projects. If you're a collector of our letterpress keepsakes, the limited edition prints will be available on October 17th while quantity lasts.

Nocturne Halifax - Monumental Signage ✨

Nocturne Halifax 2019

Nocturne is Saturday, October 19th!

Nocturne: Art at Night is a free event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax / Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Now in its 12th year, the festival brings art and energy to the streets between 6pm - midnight on Saturday, October 19th.

Come crank the wheel on our antique letterpress and print your own keepsake! This year’s theme is SCAFFOLD and we’ll reveal the design that visitors will be printing closer to the day of the event. This year’s project will truly commemorate the night and all ages are welcome!

Here is our exhibit description:

Downtown Halifax is in a state of flux. Almost everywhere you turn there is scaffolding staged to help build new or improve existing structures. Halifax once had illuminated scaffold signage in its downtown core too. For one night, participants can mix the old with the new and print by hand a Nocturne sign keepsake using a century-old letterpress.

Keep your eyes peeled for the guide to plan your route. We look forward to seeing you out! Until then, check out the post that Nocturne has put together to Have the Best Nocturne Ever!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Inkwell is moving to Brunswick Street

We are thrilled to announce that this Spring, we're moving 500 metres north to a brand new retail location at 2011 Brunswick Street!

Our new location will offer an accessible entrance at street level, consistent temperature controls (our paper products will be so happy!) and lots of natural light with large floor to ceiling windows!

After nearly 6 years on Market Street, we'll be joining 2 Crows Brewing and Roll it Up Sushi in the Brunswick Heights area between Duke & Cogswell. (We’ve been told a few more new businesses will be announced soon too!)

The new location is handy to access when walking from the North End to Downtown Halifax! There is a bike lane right outside the shop, many bus routes nearby and more than double the on street parking of our current location!

Inkwell Brunswick Street Map

It’s with gratitude + excitement that WE THANK YOU for supporting Inkwell and invite you to stay tuned for news on our progress!

Please help us share the exciting news far and wide.

Best!
