Friday Features - 01/31/20

Happy Friday everyone! It's the last day of January and we've got love on the brain...and not just for Valentine's Day - for our city of Halifax/Dartmouth along with the birds in our backyard too!

Valentine's Day and Galentine's Day are fast approaching and there are so many fantastic handmade love cards to choose from in our Halifax store!

local valentines
These 4 bestsellers are locally made by Crystal of Hello Sweetie Design, Sam of Better Left Said, Anita of Rhubarb Paper Co. and Jill of Jill & Jack Paper. Having become mainstays in our offering they're also available on our website, along with a number of other fantastic love and friendship cards.

goddess creature card
They walk among us and we're proud to call them bestie/partner. Get the perfect card for the people you adore before they're gone! This goddess design by Frog & Toad Press is available online and in-store!

woodpecker paper toy
This week we welcomed some new letterpress printed paper toy birds by Kathryn of Blackbird Letterpress. These delightful DIY (do-it-yourself) paper toys are fast and easy to assemble. We have yellow warblers and woodpeckers available.

Fun facts: The yellow warbler is a symbol of focus, growth and expanding your horizons! The redheaded woodpecker is a symbol of opportunity, mindfulness and intuition! Great reasons to have them 'hang' around your home.

Wildlife of Nova Scotia - Birds

Wednesday marked the release of the highly anticipated Wildlife of Nova Scotia - Birds print from Alex of Midnight Oil Print & Design House. The second in the series is now available in the shop and on our website!

preserves by third generation nova scotia
The gals behind Third Generation Nova Scotia have whipped up several new flavours of preserves and jams! Pop by to scoop up the limited edition seasonal flavours like Blueberry Lemon Basil and Sweet & Spicy Tomato Peach before they disappear!

Love is Everything Print

Last but not least, we featured the ever popular "Love is Everything" print by Emma FitzGerald to highlight our HANDMADE HALIFAX SPECIAL! Nocturne Halifax - Monumental Signage ✨

Nocturne Halifax 2019

Nocturne is Saturday, October 19th!

Nocturne: Art at Night is a free event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax / Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Now in its 12th year, the festival brings art and energy to the streets between 6pm - midnight on Saturday, October 19th.

Come crank the wheel on our antique letterpress and print your own keepsake! This year’s theme is SCAFFOLD and we’ll reveal the design that visitors will be printing closer to the day of the event. This year’s project will truly commemorate the night and all ages are welcome!

Here is our exhibit description:

Downtown Halifax is in a state of flux. Almost everywhere you turn there is scaffolding staged to help build new or improve existing structures. Halifax once had illuminated scaffold signage in its downtown core too. For one night, participants can mix the old with the new and print by hand a Nocturne sign keepsake using a century-old letterpress.

Keep your eyes peeled for the guide to plan your route. We look forward to seeing you out! Until then, check out the post that Nocturne has put together to Have the Best Nocturne Ever!
