These candles are vegan & cruelty-free, soy-based (USA grown), and boast sturdy paper core cotton wicks that burn evenly. It’s a great way to send someone a little piece of the East Coast.

Happy Friday Everyone! We’ve entered the first week of March and Winter seems to be competing with Spring. Whether it is grey outside or showing signs of the spring sun, we've been able to keep our spirits high by focusing on all the bright and colourful goodies we have in stock! Chelsea Legge, of Slightly Irregular Ceramics, has been in to restock our shelves with her amazing work! Sea monster to-go mugs have been topped off and are back with additional colours. These whimsical pieces, along with the rest of her collection, are made from red earthenware from Lantz, Nova Scotia. Aside from the two sizes of to-go mugs featured here, Chelsea makes everyday objects ranging from mugs, bowls, planters, berry baskets and egg holders! Feel free to stop by to admire them in person!

Dried Flower Steam Kits by Fieldhouse Handmade
If you’re really missing the flowers of spring & summer, these floral facial kits, made in Wolfville by Fieldhouse Handmade, could be the perfect remedy for you! Just mix them in a bowl of steaming water then carefully drape a towel over your head and bowl to let the floral-infused steam gently purify and cleanse your pores! It also works great if you want to treat yourself to a luxurious flower petal bath to combat winter blues - what better time to pamper yourself?

Handmade in Nova Scotia using beeswax from the Annapolis Valley, these beeswax food wraps are a sustainable alternative to plastic wrap. Happy Friday everyone! Today’s the day! Valentine’s day is finally here, and all week we have been featuring cards and treats for the special people in your life. If you haven’t made it out for your cards yet, fear not! We still have plenty of cards ranging from sassy to sappy in stock. If you’re pressed for time, we also have a great selection listed online, you can pay ahead of time and we’ll have it ready for you, just remember to hit “Local Pickup” at checkout!

It can be palentine’s, galentine’s, valentine’s or whatever else you’d like. It’s always great to show your appreciation to any person in your life. Anita, of Rhubarb Paper Co, designs all sorts of cards to get the point across with equal parts humour and sentiment. Her “Overreact with” card, featured here, could apply to partner, parent, friend or whoever else! We carry a selection of Anita’s cards in store but also online as well!

Local Grey's Anatomy Quote Card by Better Left Said
Another popular choice to express appreciation to that special, and specific, someone in your life is this “You’re My Person” (quote from Grey's Anatomy) card designed by the talented hand-lettering artist Sam Shannon of Better Left Said. We also have a new mug debut by Marla Benton this week! These fun & functional mugs are actually a collaboration from Marla and her 8-year-old daughter, Juniper, who designed the cupcake decals on them! They’re colourful, well made and sweet on so many levels! Come check them out in-store.

Handmade Aromatherapy Shower Steamers by The Bath Bomb Company
Our newest arrival are these vibrant and amazingly smelling shower steamers made in Canada by the Bath Bomb Company. What are shower steamers? They’re essentially a perfectly-portioned bath bomb product that can be used in showers and for face steams. There are 3 recommended ways to use them, First, dampen and place on the ledge in the shower away from direct water flow. Let the aroma release slowly as you shower. When you are almost done, place the steamer in the palm of your hand, hold close to your face and enjoy the aromatherapy. Second, place in a bowl of hot, steaming water, lean over the bowl with a towel over your head to enjoy the aroma of the essential oils. And finally, as a mini bath bomb!

A warm welcome goes out to our newest artist at Inkwell! Victoria, of Little Brummie, is a multidisciplinary artist of who has been experimenting this past year with new mediums. We’re drawn to her use of colour and shape in the block print tea towel designs we now carry. Featured here is one of our favourite designs of hers that features a beautiful tangerine themed pattern.

Letterpress printed by hand, by our in-house line, Inkwell Originals, Our East Coasters are hand-fed one-by-one on our circa 1921 Golding Pearl Improved #11 letterpress and the ink we use is mixed with salt water drawn from the Atlantic Ocean. This week we welcomed some new letterpress printed paper toy birds by Kathryn of Blackbird Letterpress. These delightful DIY (do-it-yourself) paper toys are fast and easy to assemble. We have yellow warblers and woodpeckers available.

Fun facts: The yellow warbler is a symbol of focus, growth and expanding your horizons! The redheaded woodpecker is a symbol of opportunity, mindfulness and intuition! Great reasons to have them 'hang' around your home.

Emma Fitzgerald’s 2020 desk calendar has been restocked and makes the perfect present for the holidays!  The calendar features a mixture of some of Emma Fitzgerald’s iconic drawings from her heartwarming book “Hand Drawn Halifax” & some new additions from her sketchbook. We’re please to be carrying a beautiful selection of quilted hoops and knotted ornaments by Sarah Goodfellow of Storm at Sea Quilt Co! Sarah creates her intricate hoop ornaments using the English Paper Piecing technique, a process in which the quilter folds fabric over paper templates and sews them by hand, this ensures the blocks are accurate and makes it easier to piece together angles. A variety of designs of these wonderful ornaments are available in-store. 

Small History Nova Scotia book by Small History NS

The Small History Nova Scotia Chapbook has arrived to Inkwell and makes a fantastic addition to a care package or stocking stuffer! Based off the twitter project #SmallHistoryNS, the book shares daily news drawn directly from the pages of rural and small-town newspapers across Nova Scotia between 1880-1910. 

In 366 daily entries it features more than 300 unique places and communities, charting the season rhythms of labour and leisure, land and sea that shaped the lives of Nova Scotia more than a century ago. It’s available in-store and online now!

This Maritime slang tea towel contains 83 unique slang phrases from around the Maritimes, and includes 21 equally unique town names from Atlantic Canada. Waiting to see what Sarah Duggan releases for her calendar has become a bit of a holiday tradition for us here at Inkwell. Every year she continues to stun us with an assortment of carefully chosen illustrations to welcome the new year and her 2020 calendar is no exception to this! This 2020 Calendar titled “Women Who Make” celebrates women living creatively. Each month features a group of women gathered together to do handcrafts and creative projects. Each page is thoughtfully designed to be re-purposed into 5x7 postcards at the end of each month (or year).
