Retail Sales Assistant (Part-time, Seasonal)
This posting is for a part-time, seasonal position from early October - late December 2026. It is a retail position only (no design or printing involved).
Job Description
The position includes customer service and daily sales (via in person, email and phone), store upkeep (restocking / tidying / cleaning), assisting in receiving products, shipping online orders, framing artwork, gift wrapping and other duties as required.
Experience and Skills Requirements
The ideal person must be cheerful, reliable and a self-starter. A passion for modern handmade products and an appreciation for supporting local, small and independent business are essential. Ability to handle standing, bending, reaching and lifting (40 pounds) on a daily basis.
Assets (but not required)
- Experience in retail sales
- A working knowledge of retail POS software (Shopify) and MacOS
- Skills in e-commerce and packaging/shipping
- Knowledge of fountain pens
- Familiarity with art mediums carried in the store
- A willingness to go above and beyond
Availability
The position consists of approximately 8-18 hours per week. The days you must be available to work are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Flexibility to work other shifts would be ideal. The shop is open 10-6 weekdays, 10-5 Saturdays and 11-4 Sundays.

About Inkwell
Inkwell is a modern handmade boutique with an abundant selection of handmade delights made with love, by makers from around the corner and across the world. Our shop is located in Downtown Halifax, and our online store shares everything in-store with the world. We also produce prints, cards and gifts under the wholesale name Inkwell Originals. When we have capacity available, we offer custom letterpress printing services. We have wonderful customers and work with incredible makers.
We are located at 1453 South Park St (across from Victoria Park) in downtown Halifax, NS.
